For the sake of anonymity the movie title featured in this story will be changed to “Celine”.
It’s been a while since my last trade story but I was confronted by something today that begs to be shared. Cross-dissolve to yesterday…. An older woman (60-65 yrs) approached me and asked if we had the movie “Celine”. I told her that we did and I went and found it on the shelf for her. She seemed like a lovely lady. When I produced the movie for her she was excited and began to tell me why she wanted to watch it so badly. She said “Some friends of mine told me that there was a movie with my name as the title. I couldn’t believe it and just had to find it.” She looked at the dvd cover and continued with slight disappointment “oh, they spelt my name wrong though”. I smiled at her and processed the transaction. Cut to this morning….. The woman returned and politely asked “Do you think I might be able to get my money back for this movie?”. I asked her why and she replied “well, it got nothing right. None of this movie had anything to do with me. I’ve never even been to Italy”. I gave her a little chuckle, assuming she was pulling my leg. She wasn’t! I realised that she was actually serious and believed that for no good reason a film would be made about her life without her knowing it. I politely declined the refund and explained that she needs to choose movies carefully and I recommended that she read the movie description before committing to watching something. She made no fuss, gave a little sigh and thanked me anyway. And she left…… LEFT ME GOBSMACKED THAT IS!
