This fourth Hellraiser movie ends the continuous (of sorts) arc of the original concept and it also marks the end of Clive Barker & Peter Atkins insolvent in the series. Its a majorly flawed movie which suffered a troubled production. It's director quit after the studio took the film away and recut it and the finished story (apparently) barely resembles the original script. I guess after 3 movies they were running out direction and so Bloodline tells its story across 3 points in time. It begins in space (yes, I know) with the last member of the Lamarchant bloodline constructing a giant configuration to finally destroy Hell as we know it. The movie then jumps back several hundred years to the very first Lament Box being crafted out of wood. This part of the story establishes the origins of the Cenobites with “queen Angelique” being the first. Then the story shifts forward to 1994 with Pinhead and Angelique taking on another member of the Lamarchant bloodline... and finally we're back in space for the final confrontation. Compared with the first 3 Hellraiser movies, this one sucks. Its lost all of its grungy aesthetic and delivers a polished and absurd looking movie that over-exposes Pinhead to the point of hilarity. Originally confined to the shadows, he is now fully lit and takes up 90% of the screen time. Too much. I would be very keen to see the release of the director's cut which Barker, Atkins and Bradley (Pinhead) all considered a great addition to the legacy.
