When it comes to movies there's nothing better than going into a film you've never heard of, know nothing about and come away from it 100% satisfied. That just happened when I watched Eliminate Archie Cookson. Wow what a sleeper movie. It's a British film about a former spy who now works at the bottom of the pecking order as a dull linguist. Two rolls of audio tape land on his desk and suddenly all of his co-workers are gunned down while he was asleep in the sound booth. There's a hit on Archie and the movie follows his efforts to leave town while his former best friend is on his trail with a suitcase full of arsenal. Story-wise it's nothing out of the ordinary but it's managed really well. Paul Rhys is excellent in the lead role and the film offers a fresh approach to the genre. Its subtle, understated and packed with wit. There's a few nice twists and turns along the way making for a really refreshing and worthwhile flick.
