This is another short story I've had published on the Oz Horror Con website. Make sure you visit them for a heap of other Aussie horror related material.
From Little Things...
Sarah hated her new bedroom. In fact she hated the entire house. Her parents had bought it a month ago and since they moved in, she’s wanted out. In the daylight it looks nice enough, with its pretty flowerbeds and picket fences and there’s even a beautiful big oak tree right outside her bedroom window. A sparrow perches on its braches every day and tweets a melody. She feels safe in the light of day but it’s the night time that tell a different story. The house makes noises and sounds alive. It moans and creaks and casts menacing shadows as she lies in bed. Sometimes she doesn’t even sleep at all and when she does she wakes up feeling strange… like the walls have been watching her.
This morning was like any other. Sarah woke up relieved to see the rising sun beaming rays of light through her window. The little sparrow nesting on its perch was singing a reassuring song… It’s a new day and Sarah had exactly 14 hours to enjoy it before the spectre of darkness came creeping back.
