My love of Albert Pyun is no secret. Clearly he has made some bad movies but he has also made many amazing ones. From his early career highs with films like The Sword and the Sorcerer and Radioactive Dreams to his more recent accomplishments such as Invasion and Road to Hell... and everything in between. No other filmmaker has been so driven by love of the craft and very few directors interact with their fans like he has. Never a day goes by when he doesn't keep us up to date with production notes, teasers and thoughts. Albert Pyun is a resilient man who has copped more than his fair share of criticism and negativity. It is a testament to his strength of character that he has faced such hostility with his deflective chin held high. Any true film lover knows Albert's talent well. Even his lesser films are riddled with ingenious artistry and a keen eye for action. He has made films under the tightest restraint and has given us some of the best on-screen action ever captured on film (see video below). Possibly his most underrated and impressive experiment was the eerie 2005 film Invasion (aka Infection). Captured in ONE single shot, it is surprising and effectively scary movie that best represents Albert's skills and capabilities. Perhaps it was a career-long assault of negativity that has taken it's toll on his health... or maybe it was his dogged determination and enthusiastic drive to create... whatever the case, life has caught up with Albert Pyun and he has made the heartbreaking decision to call it a day. It's sad news for fans of cult and indie filmmaking and his personality will be sorely missed. Who knows what's in store for him? He may very well continue to tour and talk about his life of cinema. As alluded to recently, he may even teach. I feel very privileged to be one of the last interviews he granted before announcing his retirement and wish him all the best for whatever lays ahead for him.

Albert, thank you for the amazing catalogue of films you have given the world. It's a diverse and eclectic collection of stories that will continue to grace screens for years to come. Haters be haters but at the end of the day the loyalty you have from your genuine fans is unmistakable and we are eternally grateful. Don't be a stranger and take care of yourself.
